Re-discovering Gerogio Armani Luminous Silk

"The Cult-Favorite Foundation Perfect for Luxury Occasions”

The cult-favorite foundation, perfect for weddings and photoshoots, holds a special place in my makeup journey. I vividly recall the day in Boston's Prudential Center when my friends and I strolled into Sephora. It was in that glamorous setting that I made my very first foundation purchase, envisioning it as the go-to for my semi-formals and other special events. A mere 15-year-old at the time, I selected the iconic Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk, marking the beginning of my love affair with luxury makeup. In those days, I favored shade 5.5, unaware that the foundation wasn't quite the right fit for me. My youthful enthusiasm often led me to apply excessive layers, adhering to the makeup trends of the early 2000s that preached more was better.

Fast forward 11 years, and today finds me as a seasoned makeup artist based in Zurich, rediscovering my high school foundation. The decision is twofold.

Firstly, expanding my professional kit necessitated a range of foundations, drawing guidance from industry pros like Hung Vanngo and Kelsie Bain. My collection now spans from light to medium coverage, featuring staples such as MAC Face and Body, Dior Face and Body, and the timeless Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk—a personal favorite renowned for its flawless bridal looks.

Secondly, in my personal makeup routine, I recently reintroduced Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk after a brief stint with Dior. The impeccable shade match of olive shade 6, tailored to my neutral/olive undertones, imparts a natural, velvety finish that blends seamlessly with my skin, imparting a second-skin-like feel. To achieve the coveted skin-like finish, I recommend warming 1-2 pumps of the foundation on the back of your hand before application, ensuring a seamless blend.

For those averse to heavy foundation, my top recommendation remains Armani Luminous Silk. Opt for a maximum of 2 pumps and complement with a layer of SPF, beauty oil, or a light cream during the summer months for a comfortable wear that lasts through special occasions.

Pro Tip: To lighten the texture of your favorite foundation, blend it with your preferred moisturizer for a personalized touch.
